Women to Benefit From No-Referral, Same-Day Mammography

Illinois' Largest Health System Offers Women a New Convenient Screening Option

DOWNERS GROVE, IL--(Marketwired - September 16, 2013) - Advocate Health Care announced today that it now offers women 40 and older access to same-day mammogram appointments without a referral.

The news comes on the heels of a new Harvard study out last week that shows if more women get mammograms before age 50, more lives could be saved.

"We understand that prevention and early detection are important to help save lives," says Tere Macarol, Advocate's manager of women's imaging and a breast cancer survivor. "For most women 40 and older, a mammogram is the best way to find breast cancer early, when it's most treatable. This is our way of being there for women where and when they need us in today's busy world."

Advocate has 32 sites of care offering women access to same-day mammograms -- offering the latest in digital technology including 3-D mammography available at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Bloomington. Every scan is read by board-certified radiologists who have special training in breast cancer diagnostics. Same-day appointments can be made by calling 855.456.JOURNEY.

Advocate has also launched a dedicated website where women can go to get expert advice and engaged in honest conversations about breast health.

"We are committed to helping prevent breast cancer related deaths among women and building stronger and healthier communities across Chicagoland and beyond," said Macarol. "Great health outcomes stem from the strong partnerships physicians and clinicians have with their patients and building life-long relationships with those we are privileged to serve is a top priority at Advocate."
