WORKSHOP FOCUSES ON PRIMARY SKILLS

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 23, 2005) - Every teacher strives to create a classroom where children are active, engaged, and excited about learning. Doing so can be especially challenging for occasional-or supply-teachers.

A summer course offered by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Hastings-Prince Edward Occasional Teacher Local will explore a wide range of strategies for use in the grade two classroom.

The course is one of a wide range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province. Courses are taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. Hundreds of elementary teachers are expected to take part.

Available courses include a women's leadership institute, principals' qualifications program, and credit courses.

What: Grade 2 - Pulling it all Together

When: August 24, 25, and 26

This workshop will examine successful classroom management strategies, long range plans, timetabling, integrating various subject areas, and meaningful assessment and evaluation in grade two.
