World Cup Betting Kicks Off at Victor Chandler

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 4, 2009) - Bookmakers Victor Chandler have begun their World Cup betting programme, with England priced at odds of 6/1 to win the tournament. Fabio Capello's men join France, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina and reigning champions Italy, as the early favourites to win next year's competition in South Africa.

In total, 32 countries will compete for the famous FIFA World Cup Trophy and the teams have now been drawn into 8 groups. England will play in Group C, alongside USA, Algeria and Slovenia. The month-long tournament will commence on the 11th of June and take place at venues across South Africa, including newly-constructed stadiums in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

England will be hoping to bounce back from their disappointment in the last World Cup, where they reached the Quarter-Finals, losing to Portugal on penalties. Following the departure of Sven Goran Eriksson as coach, Fabio Capello has breathed new life into the squad, and having finished top of their qualification group, England are seen as genuine contenders for the trophy.

Victor Chandler have long been pioneers in the field of football betting, having opened up the market to the Far East in the early 90s. In 1999, the company moved to Gibraltar(head office), becoming the first bookmaker to take advantage of tax-free betting in the province. Today, the company has offices in London, Dublin and Singapore and offers betting and gaming sites in multiple languages to over half a million clients, in over 160 countries worldwide.

A spokesperson for the company commented: "We are delighted to be able to announce England as one of the favourites for the 2010 World Cup. With an impressive qualifying campaign, which saw the team finish clear leaders of their group, hopes are high that this could be our year."

"At Victor Chandler, we are confident that we have some of the best world cup odds around and we will be getting behind the team with some unbeatable offers and promotions over the course of the tournament."
