World Health announced Brittany Boechler as their 2012 Winter $10k Challenge winner. As her grand prize, Boechler was presented with a cheque for $10,000.

"Although we can only award one grand prize, the number of people who made life altering changes to their fitness and health was very impressive," said Scott Wildeman, Sr. Vice President of Operations, World Health. "We are always excited to hear about how an increase in fitness will impact someone's relationship with their family or their work or school, increase their self confidence and enjoyment of everyday life. That is why we do what we do, and are excited to work with our members every day! We congratulate Brittany and everyone else who now has a renewed lease on life."

Boechler began putting on weight when her youngest brother, Luke, was diagnosed with leukemia. Food and drinks became a coping mechanism for emotion and stress, and the convenience of fast food allowed her to spend the most time with her family while ignoring her own health.

"If I wasn't eating garbage, I wasn't eating at all," said Boechler. "I began to hate myself for it. My waistline and body definitely hated it. I didn't step on the scale for over a year until I realized that none of my clothes fit and I was trying on things that were three sizes larger than before."

A member at Macleod World Health in Calgary, Boechler lost 34 pounds and eight inches in 12 weeks. She credits her success to her holistic approach of exercise, cleaning eating, plenty of sleep, and mental wellness.

"I finally love the way I feel. I love the way my clothes fit. I love myself again," said the 26 year old. "I'm lifting weights, kicking butt at bootcamp, running sprints, and continuing to improve my flexibility and strength. It is so unbelievable how much my fitness improved in 12 short weeks."

World Health's 2012 Winter $10k Challenge began in January, giving members and non-members alike 12 weeks from their entry date to demonstrate results. Over 600 Albertans joined the Challenge, sharing in World Health's mission of enriching people's lives by inspiring a healthy and active lifestyle.
