World Premier of New Reel Paddling Film Festival Will Make a Splash in Ottawa on Saturday, February 4th

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 25, 2006) - A new paddling film festival will premiere in Ottawa before touring across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Rapid Media (publishers of Rapid, Adventure Kayak and Canoeroots/Family Camping magazines) will be launching their Reel Paddling Film Festival World Tour on February 4, 2006. The premiere will be hosted by Trailhead at the University of Ottawa Alumni Theatre at 85 University Street.

"We've scoured the planet for the best whitewater, canoeing and sea kayaking films of the year," says Scott MacGregor, founder of Rapid Media. "It'll be an evening of the best travel, action and adventure films today's talented paddling filmmakers have to offer."

The panel of judges has made its decision. Winners of the festival's five categories (best whitewater, canoeing, sea kayaking, adventure travel and short films) will be announced and screened at the launch.

Highlights include:

Wet House- A personal look at the athletes pushing the limits of what is possible in a whitewater kayak.

Across Asgaard-Join two Canadian canoeists as they paddle and pillage 800 kilometres across Scandinavia.

This is the Sea 2-Edge-of-your-seat sea kayaking from Tasmania, Newfoundland, Norway and the tidal races of the U.K. and British Columbia.

River Rat-Canoeing journeyman Kevin Callan gets down Ontario's Madawaska River in his own unique way.

Festival starts at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to join the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) in the theatre at 6 p.m. for a presentation on their campaigns to protect the Nahanni and Dumoine rivers.
