World's Largest Cleaning & Restoration Factory Is Now the World's Greenest

EAST ORANGE, NJ--(Marketwire - Apr 19, 2012) - GeoGenix, an established industry leader in residential and commercial solar installations in the mid-Atlantic region, has been awarded a contract by Rug Renovating, the world's largest rug and carpet cleaning, repair and restoration facility, to install a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the company's corporate headquarters in East Orange, NJ.

"Rug Renovating is very excited about the investment we are making in a solar system on our roof," said Paul Iskyan, fourth generation owner and president of Rug Renovating. "In addition to saving on electricity costs, the solar system is aligned with our values of sustainability and will allow us to attract environmentally-minded customers."

The $1.4 million system, which is being designed, engineered and constructed by GeoGenix, will consist of 1,200 solar panels that will produce roughly 363,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, enough to offset 90 to 100 percent of the building's electricity load, realizing $3,500 to $4,000 in savings per month. The installation is set to be complete by mid-2012.

Rug Renovating will own the solar system on its one-story, 55,000-square-foot corporate headquarters, which is used for cleaning, repairing and restoring handmade rugs and carpets, as well as distribution and warehousing.

"We are thrilled to be partnered with such an environmentally responsible company as Rug Renovating," said Gaurav Naik, managing member of GeoGenix. "They have a keen understanding of the benefits and importance of solar, and their dedication to bettering the environment and preserving it for future generations is part of its corporate philosophy."

Rug Renovating has a history of environmentally responsible and energy-efficient practices. In 2007, the company invested $33,000 to replace all the lighting in its facility with new fluorescent bulbs that are ENERGY STAR rated, an external benchmark created by the U.S. Environmental Protections Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, which reduced its use of electricity for lighting by 40 percent. In 2009, the company spent $300,000 to replace its facility's old roof with an ENERGY STAR-rated roof. Furthermore, Rug Renovating participates in the city of East Orange's recycling program and cleans all its wastewater through the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission.

"Green is not just something you put on your website; rather, it's taking many different steps to improve the environment and making a commitment with time, money and education," said Iskyan. "It's good for business, good for the environment and it feels good to know your business is making a difference."

The power generated by the solar PV system equates to the reduction of more than 605,000 pounds of CO2 emissions per year, which is the equivalent of offsetting the power demand of 36 homes for one year, planting 6,600 trees or removing 76 cars from the road every year.
