World's Largest Media Companies to Use KIT digital to Broadcast the Royal Wedding to TV, Mobile and Online Viewers Around the Globe

The Wedding of Catherine and Prince William to Be Delivered to an Audience of Billions With the Help of KIT's Video Content Services

LONDON and PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC--(Marketwire - Apr 28, 2011) - KIT digital, Inc. (NASDAQ: KITD), a premium technology solutions provider for multi-screen video management and delivery, is helping the largest media companies in the world to capture and deliver packaged Royal Wedding video content simultaneously across multiple types of IP-enabled devices, including TVs, mobile phones, tablets and PCs.

Major media outlets like the Associated Press, MSN, ABC-Disney, Canal Digital, Singtel, CNN, SKY News, Astro and the BBC will be relying on KIT's unique broadcast systems and content management capabilities to marry the worlds of TV broadcast and real-time IP-video distribution.

"The upcoming Royal Wedding will be the ultimate showcase for the reach of IP-based video -- and its replacement of key elements of the traditional video management value chain," said Alex Blum, chief operating officer of KIT digital.

"Over the last several years, we have seen many major global events attract huge numbers of online viewers, but nothing to the degree we will witness on April 29, with more than 2.4 billion viewers expected to be watching across all media outlets," said Blum. "The Royal Wedding will hit every screen with a multitude of digital, online and social video options available to a global audience -- and KIT digital will be there every step down the aisle."

Unlike the last Royal Wedding, this time the audience will be 'liking,' rating, tweeting and blogging about every aspect of the day's events. "KIT's unique combination of video technologies and services provides broadcasters a workflow system that can securely manage and instantly deliver video across multiple types of devices, as well as across sites like Twitter and Facebook with special social media features," added Blum.

KIT's 'lens-to-lens' delivery starts with outdoor broadcast (OB) vans the company has outfitted for major broadcasters to capture, broadcast and stream live HD video content via satellite, and extends all the way to powering social media site delivery, as well as 'on-deck' and 'off-deck' mobile video experiences.

KIT digital's content services team will also be processing the raw footage of The Royal Wedding and offering it to the company's media partners via an online content marketplace. This will enable media partners to purchase and distribute live and on-demand coverage in real time to their global customer base, while dramatically reducing time spent and content services costs of outsourced encoding, and terrestrial shipping and delivery.

MSN will be one of the many companies leveraging KIT's content marketplace to distribute KIT's Royal Wedding packaged video content to its global online customer base in five languages based on footage from one of the world's largest and most trusted news provider, Associated Press.

"We want to deliver the video content our customers demand, in real time and to anywhere in the world," said Niclas Janson, executive producer for MSN Sweden. "Never has this capability been more essential than for The Royal Wedding, and KIT digital gives us easy and efficient access to the time-sensitive content our users demand. On this day of celebration, we are excited to join with KIT to meet the needs of our online users around the world."

How The Royal Wedding will reach multiple screens:

  • KIT's broadcast systems integration team has built and supplied several major broadcasters with OB vans ranging from multi-camera, IP-capable coachbuilt trailers to compact satellite news-gathering trucks, uplink vehicles, and radio vans to enable production teams to capture, broadcast and stream HD footage from on the ground at the event.

  • Several of KIT's media customers will be using KIT digital's content management platform to stream the entire event live to end-users via online and mobile video players as well as social media widgets.

  • KIT's content services team will capture the raw footage of The Royal Wedding from satellite and then script and edit the content into 45-90 second clips.

  • The clips will then be localized and translated into 15 languages using the KIT Platform, before being transcoded for distribution across multiple types of video devices (TV, IPTV, PCs, tablet and mobile).

  • KIT can combine this delivery with full customization and branding of video content, as well as add graphical elements and voice-overs generated live from the KIT Platform.

  • Online publishers, mobile operators, enterprise and commercial news broadcasters from around the world can then purchase the clips to instantly broadcast to audiences on any device.
