World's Leading Beverage Can Maker Standardizes on Infoblox Appliances
Infoblox Solution Delivers Nonstop DNS and DHCP Services Essential for Critical Network Applications and Ensures Reliable "IP-tone" for VoIP
| Source: Infoblox
SANTA CLARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 8, 2007 -- Infoblox Inc., a developer of essential
infrastructure for identity-driven networks (IDNs), today announced that
Rexam, one of the world's leading consumer packaging groups and the leading
beverage can maker, has selected and deployed Infoblox appliances. Rexam
selected Infoblox to deliver nonstop domain name resolution (DNS) and IP
address assignment (DHCP) services for its worldwide network, which
includes an extensive Cisco-based Voice over IP (VoIP) implementation that
is expected to serve more than 8,000 users by the end of 2007.
Domain name resolution and DHCP services are essential to the operation of
any advanced IP network. Without reliable delivery of these services,
basic network applications like email and web access can be compromised.
This is especially true for advanced VoIP networks where "dial-tone"-like
reliability of the underlying network services, such as IP address
assignment, is critical.
Infoblox purpose-built appliances deliver reliable, scalable, and secure
network identity services, including DNS, DHCP, and IP address management
(IPAM), file transfer (TFTP) and authentication (RADIUS). The integrated
Infoblox approach combines the simplicity of appliances with the power of
advanced distributed database technology to effectively achieve
availability, manageability, visibility, and control unparalleled by
conventional solutions based on legacy technologies.
Rexam's Worldwide Deployment
As a leading manufacturer of packaging products from beverage cans to
child-proof medicine bottles, Rexam, which has approximately 22,000
employees and more than 90 manufacturing operations in over 20 countries,
relies on its network and several key applications, including SAP and MRP,
to keep the plants running and production lines operating smoothly.
Steve Bickmore, manager, Global Directory Services & Security for Rexam,
commented, "Our previous DNS solutions were compromising network
availability due to reliability and security issues. If our network and
MRP application were to go down for more than 30 minutes, there would be a
halt in the production line that could seriously impact our business.
Infoblox appliances offer unique high-availability, manageability,
scalability and security advantages to ensure non-stop DNS service delivery
and overall network availability required to keep our business running.
This is critical now for DNS and will become even more important for DHCP
as we roll out VoIP."
Eight Infoblox devices already are deployed in high-availability pairs
across Rexam's four regional data centers that are located in Atlanta,
London, Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong for external and internal DNS and
DHCP. Once all the legacy systems are replaced company-wide, Rexam will
embark on broad implementation of its Cisco-based VoIP network for which
Infoblox appliances will provide the necessary network infrastructure
services, including DHCP and TFTP.
All of the services provided by the appliances take advantage of Infoblox's
unique ID grid technology that links multiple Infoblox appliances into a
unified grid, combining the benefits of nonstop local service delivery with
consolidated management and control. This solves a number of key
operational challenges and several specific to VoIP applications, such as
the distribution of IP phone firmware images and configuration files via
TFTP.
Added Bickmore, "In addition to the immediate advantages of the Infoblox
approach in terms of easy deployment and management of network identity
services, the Infoblox ID grid technology will give us one 'true'
company-wide identity database of user and device activity that will help
improve network visibility and awareness essential for compliance and
security initiatives."
And, with the Infoblox solution, a network operator can simply load Cisco
IP phone firmware files once and the grid will automatically distribute the
files to appliances at geographically dispersed locations. This saves
time, improves service and reduces the errors introduced by the traditional
approach, which is for the network operator to set up local TFTP servers,
and manage and load the files individually. As a result, the robust
Infoblox infrastructure will eliminate significant administrative overhead
and costs for Rexam.
Further underscoring the value of Infoblox's approach, appliances running
the DNSone package were recently tested and certified to meet the Cisco
Technology Developer Program "IP Communications" category requirements.
More specifically, the DHCP and TFTP functionality of the Infoblox products
were interoperability-tested by a Cisco-recommended third-party testing
facility with Cisco-based IP phones (7960/7940 Series) and Cisco Call
Manager.
"This certification verifies the compatibility of Infoblox appliances with
Cisco VoIP solutions," said Richard Kagan, vice president of Marketing at
Infoblox. "And, selection of Infoblox appliances to support Rexam's
extensive global network and advanced VoIP application reflects the
reliability and scalability advantages customers are realizing by deploying
Infoblox appliances to provide the essential DNS, DHCP and TFTP network
services."
Infoblox supports features specific to Cisco IP phones that can increase
the network operator's ability to manage a Cisco IP Phone application. For
instance, Infoblox DHCP supports custom options required for advanced
configuration of Cisco IP Phones. Overall, the Infoblox solution helps
ensure that the critical DNS, DHCP and TFTP network services will operate
nonstop to support 24x7 availability of the network and its advanced IP
applications like VoIP.
