When Bob Curle of Selkirk, Manitoba walked into his nearby McDonald's restaurant earlier this month and peeled off the MONOPOLY® Game Boardwalk Game Stamp from a large McCafé® Premium Roast coffee, the last thing he expected was to be a lucky $1 Million Prize* winner!

Curle, a longtime McDonald's customer, didn't realize he had one of the winning $1 million Prize* Game Stamps until his son told him he should call the Prize Redemption Centre in New York.

"Like most seniors, my morning coffee is part of my routine," said Curle, the first $1 million* MONOPOLY® Game winner in Canada since 2008. "I knew I had peeled off a rare Game Stamp but I never expected to win the big prize!"

The 71-year-old retiree loves to volunteer his time for charitable causes and does not yet know how he'll spend his new fortune.

Launched on September 25, 2012 in participating McDonald's restaurants in Canada, the MONOPOLY® Game at McDonald's gave customers three different ways to win money, prizes, food, and more. Customers played the MONOPOLY® Game at McDonald's in one of three ways:

  • "Collect and Win" - collect a property set to potentially win up to $1 Million
  • Win "Instantly" - look for "Instant" win Game Stamps to potentially win cash, food and other Prizes
  • Win Online - enter Game Stamp Codes at PlayAtMcD.ca to get a chance to win in a weekly Sweepstakes for a $1,000 Walmart Gift Card and a Grand Prize Sweepstakes for a $5,000 Walmart Gift Card

This year's Game offered a 1-in-4 chance overall to win from millions of Prizes available including cash and food Prizes, gift cards, trips and much more. McDonald's has served up millions of winners in past MONOPOLY® Games at McDonald's and this year's game continued to offer a fun game experience.

The MONOPOLY Game® at McDonald's, a huge favourite among Canadians and one that is enjoyed by all age groups, is the most played game from coast to coast.
