GOLDEN, CO--(Marketwired - Jun 28, 2016) - Wowza Media Systems™, the leading software and cloud-based services provider that continuously simplifies the complexities of high-quality video and audio streaming for organizations worldwide, today announced significant upgrades to its flagship Wowza Streaming Engine™ software. With the latest release, companies can publish video directly to Facebook Live from within Wowza Streaming Engine. Additional improvements build on some of Wowza's most impressive benefits, giving organizations more reach for their content, and simplifying the creation, delivery and ongoing management of broadcast-quality video.
"Live video streaming has quickly become one of the most powerful communication channels for brands, broadcasters and consumers alike. High-quality video is critical for engaging and retaining viewers, but it is also necessary to be able to reach audiences in real time on their preferred social media platforms and devices," said Paul Sweeting, industry analyst and founder of Concurrent Media Strategies. "As streaming technology advances and becomes more accessible, it's exciting to see how live video becomes integral to our everyday personal and professional lives."
With 19,000 customers in more than 170 countries, Wowza streaming technology sets the standard for functionality, reliability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness for media streaming to any screen -- across a vast array of industries and streaming types. Wowza Streaming Engine is robust, customizable and scalable server software that powers reliable video and audio streaming to any device. The software can be deployed on premises or in the cloud, and it offers complete server-level control, cost-effective monthly pricing and APIs for workflow automation.
With the latest feature updates to Wowza Streaming Engine version 4.5, customers gain significant benefits with the ability to:
- Push video content directly to Facebook Live: Wowza Streaming Engine integrates directly with Facebook Live. Wowza was selected as one of a few early Facebook Live integration partners. With this latest release of Wowza Streaming Engine, Wowza has made this functionality generally available. Direct integration with Facebook Live allows companies to quickly distribute live content to the world's most popular social media platform for unmatched reach. Wowza makes it simple for brands to broaden their horizons and engage with new audiences in new ways through immersive formats such as live streaming and 360° video. The simple stream-to-Facebook-Live capability is also now available in Wowza Streaming Cloud, the end-to-end streaming service from Wowza.
- More options to easily push live content anywhere: Wowza Streaming Engine now has the option for a general Apple HLS or HTTP live stream push. This extends the level of control for developers and customers allowing them to write their own code using the Wowza API to automate workflows sending live streams to not only the content delivery network (CDN) of their choice but also any storage target for modification and management. With this ability to write the content distribution code directly into video applications, Wowza has further automated the distribution process and given developers more flexibility and control over their workflows. Wowza offers the industry's most comprehensive set of content delivery options, enabling developers to push content to storage clouds such as Azure and Amazon S3, and CDNs such as Akamai.
- Seamless scalability and easy management: Wowza Streaming Engine now supports Simple Network Management Protocols (SNMP) for streamlined IT monitoring and operation. With support for this standard, Wowza bridges the gap between developers and IT operations, making it easier for IT operations managers to monitor Wowza servers in the way they're accustomed to handling the rest of their infrastructure with tools like Nagios and SolarWinds. For developers that want to programmatically delve into automated management and analysis of video streams, Wowza's extensive Java and REST APIs provide stable and standardized interfaces for development of custom stream health monitoring applications.
"Some of the biggest brands in the world choose Wowza solutions for their streaming needs. Our software has become the de facto standard for high-quality video streaming that is flexible, reliable, scalable and affordable," said David Stubenvoll, CEO and co-founder of Wowza Media Systems. "Video sits at the epicenter of some of the decade's hottest trends, from 360-degree video and virtual reality to live streaming and second-screen viewing. Our customers know that video infrastructure can make or break a company's ability to capitalize on these trends, which is why they rely on Wowza to continuously shape the streaming landscape."
