WTS San Diego Names Renita Mollman Woman of the Year

The Leader of Burns & McDonnell's Southern California Office Is Celebrated for Her Efforts in Advancing Women in Transportation


BREA, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 14, 2015) - WTS, the region's largest transportation organization dedicated to advancing women in transportation, has selected Renita Mollman as the San Diego Chapter's 2015 Woman of the Year. Recognized as the most prestigious award in San Diego's transportation industry, the award honors women who are outstanding role models in the field of transportation. Mollman is vice president and general manager of Burns & McDonnell's Southern California offices known for its innovative work in aviation.

Mollman's passion in aviation transportation spans everything from aircraft hangars to airfield design. She was the lead civil engineer for a massive terminal improvement program at Kansas City International Airport transforming it into one of the pre-eminent airports in the Midwest. In California, Mollman's led innovative projects at Naval Base Point Loma and Naval Air Station North Island. Her team is now partnering with Southwest Airlines on a modernization project at LAX.

Mollman is a tireless advocate for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. She regularly visits magnet schools to help spark an early interest in STEM careers and mentors young engineers at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Fullerton. Through Burns & McDonnell, Renita leads a robust internship program each summer giving students real life project experience.

As one of the first female officers at Burns & McDonnell, Mollman is committed to advancing and mentoring women within the firm. She initiated a Professional Women's Exchange in the San Diego and Orange County offices to offer a platform for women to share unique experiences as women in the industry with a goal to continuously improve the careers and personal development through education and networking.

Mollman has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines. She is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies, serving on the Orange County board of the directors, and is a member of the WTS San Diego and Orange County Chapters.
