Wu Dao Grand Opening: Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Come to Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - September 17, 2007) - Wu Dao Kung Fu and Tai Chi marked its official grand opening on Saturday, September 8, 2007 with lion dancing, martial arts demonstrations, musical performances, and hands-on workshops. Since its launch three months ago, the Cambridge, MA martial arts school has attracted adults, teens, and children with diverse martial arts backgrounds.

Owner and Head Instructor, Shi-Fu Tim Hartmann, explained, "Wu Dao intends to help students explore the martial path as embodied by the meaning of the Chinese characters 'Wu Dao.'" By focusing on the individual, Wu Dao seeks to help each student develop a personal practice for reaching his or her own optimal potential. An important emphasis of the Wu Dao training is on the improvement of the student's physical capabilities and mental focus to achieve increased effectiveness of martial techniques.

Shi-Fu Tim Hartmann believes that one of the first steps towards following the martial path is to develop respect and cultivate humility. In addition to training martial artists in Praying Mantis and Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu as well as Tai Chi, the school provides a collegial environment for students and instructors from various martial arts disciplines to train and learn from one another. It was therefore natural for Wu Dao's Grand Opening Celebration to feature not just performances by instructors and students of Wu Dao, but also those by Jade Forest Kung Fu and Tai Chi and Okinawan Karate of Quincy. Guests at the Grand Opening Celebration were also treated to three free hands-on workshops with Sensei Russ Centamore, 6th Dan in Uechi-Ryu Karate, and Sifu John Loupos, author of Inside Tai Chi and Tai Chi Connections.
