WWF-Canada: Media Briefing-Fate of Southern Grand Banks Cod on the Line at International Fisheries Meeting (NAFO) Next Week

Friday, September 21, 2007 11:00 AM ADT / 1400 UCT

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 20, 2007) - WWF-Canada will hold a media briefing outlining what measures NAFO (Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization) needs to undertake at their upcoming Annual Meeting (September 24-28/07 in Lisbon, Portugal) to recover cod.

Despite more than a decade of moratoria, cod have not rebounded and if the status quo continues, it is highly unlikely they ever will. It is expected that this years meeting will see a cod recovery proposal tabled for the first time.

Speaking will be:

Dr. Robert Rangeley, Vice President, Atlantic, WWF-Canada from Brussels

Marty King, Director, North Atlantic Bycatch Campaign, WWF-Canada in Halifax

Media may attend the briefing in our office at:
