WWF Celebrates 50 Years With the First Panda Ball in Toronto

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 30, 2011) - WWF is hosting an inaugural fundraising gala in celebration of its 50th anniversary globally. The Panda Ball will be a night filled with inspiration, awards, and fun, as WWF launches the most ambitious chapter of conservation in its history. This black tie event will bring together visionaries from philanthropic and business communities who are leading this next generation in conserving our planet.

In the last half century, WWF has led efforts to double protected area on land-helping add 1,000 new parks to the map of Canada-and to expand the conservation of Canadian waters. WWF is now tackling the most challenging environmental issues of our time: a changing climate, a melting Arctic, and the health of our oceans and rivers.

This event will be a fantastic celebration of WWF's successes and a leap forward into the next 50 years of protecting the planet and helping people and nature thrive.

WWF is grateful to the Royal Bank of Canada for their generosity as presenting sponsor and to Goldcorp Incorporated as the gold sponsor.

"WWF could not have achieved our conservation goals over the past 50 years without the generosity of our supporters. Plenty of work still lies ahead in the stewardship of our natural resources. From coast to coast to coast, we are inspired by the Canadians who choose to walk with us on this journey to sustainability."

- Gerald Butts, President and CEO, WWF-Canada

"It's hard to think of another organization that has been so tireless in its dedication to protecting the planet, especially one that's been doing it for half a century. We're really happy to help WWF celebrate its golden anniversary this year."

- Gord Nixon, President and CEO, Royal Bank of Canada
