WWF Expert Available to Comment After Testifying at Standing Committee on Natural Resources

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 25, 2010) - WWF-Canada will document the differences in Canadian and U.S regulatory approaches to offshore drilling in testimony to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources which resumes its study today. Craig Stewart, WWF-Canada's Arctic Program Director, will be available for comment after his submission, which takes place between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

First testimony to the Standing Committee was May 13, when senior officials from BP Canada, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and the NEB were questioned by legislators on whether Canada has adequate safeguards to prevent an environmental disaster on the scale of the oil spill at the BP-leased rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

Their testimony left further questions as to the differences between the U.S. and Canadian regulatory regimes – an issue which Mr. Stewart will speak to in detail.

The text of Mr. Stewart's submission will also be available after 11am on May 25 from the WWF website at www.wwf.ca.
