PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - Mar 22, 2013) - Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), one of the world's largest hospitality providers and an industry leader in sustainable practices, is participating in the Earth Hour global initiative by turning their lights down and encouraging energy conservation.
Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour 2013 will take place Saturday, March 23, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time. "We believe the hospitality industry can and should be a leader in reducing our impact on the environment, and we are committed to finding new ways to reduce energy consumption and successfully implement energy efficient strategies across our global operations," said Faith Taylor, senior vice president of sustainability for Wyndham Worldwide. "This is the fourth year that Wyndham Worldwide will join Earth Hour across our more than 100,000 locations in nearly 100 countries, to raise awareness of global energy efforts."
Wyndham Worldwide sustainable practices are created and driven by the Company's Wyndham Green program, which in its seventh year, remains one of the top five strategic priorities at Wyndham Worldwide. The program, which is focused on education and innovation, is a way of living and working based on the Company's vision and core values, enhancing customers' lives by improving the environment, supporting global and local communities, and developing sustainable programs that deliver economic benefits.
"Through Wyndham Green, we aim to develop solutions that make sense for both the environment and the bottom line," said Taylor. "For example, energy efficient lighting is now a best practice at Wyndham Worldwide, with our diverse brands and business units increasingly selecting more energy efficient options, and as a result we have seen a continued reduction in our energy costs."
