Wynford Group 2011 Projections Confirm Canada Is "Back to Business"

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 15, 2010) - The Wynford Group announces the results of their November Compensation Update based on input from over 350 organizations across Canada.

Almost 53% of participants indicated that they are expecting business growth in 2011, with only 5.2% projecting a decline. The optimism continues with the projected National average base salary increase climbing to 2.73% for 2011, with the highest provincial base projections in Saskatchewan and Alberta, at 3.15% and 2.99% respectively. The Energy Sector is the lead industry with a 3.80% projected base increase for 2011 with both Engineering/Construction and Logistics projected at 3.10%.

The Wynford Group has also released their November 2010 trend report of Key Human Capital Strategies from fall 2008 to 2011.

Gail Evans, Wynford Group President, suggests, "There are strong signs that Canadian companies are "Back in Business" as the reduction of cost containment strategies used during the recession are now in decline. At the same time, we are seeing a dramatic increase in positive lead indicators that foreshadow expected business growth and confidence in the economy". These include:

  • Increase in organizations replacing all vacancies rather than just critical jobs.
  • Few organizations expecting further staff reductions and hiring freezes.
  • Large percentage of organizations that are expecting to increase their training budgets to pre-recession levels. 
  • More organizations hiring summer students.
  • Other trends that may be a signal of changes in business strategy include:
  • Increased use of retirees to increase access to flexible employee pool.
  • Increased outsourcing of some services such as help-desk and transactional HR services.
