Wyse Unveils New Infrastructure Management Software Solutions to Simplify the Transition From PCs to Cloud Client Computing in Post-PC Era

Expanded Management Software Portfolio Supports the Widest Set of Thin, Zero, Mobile, and PC-Based Clients; Invisible and Automatic Across a Variety of Computing Architectures

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 31, 2011) - Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, today announced significant updates to the company's client management software solutions, enabling customers' IT teams to deploy cloud and VDI endpoints and virtually never touch them again. Wyse made this announcement in connection with VMworld® 2011, the global conference for virtualization and cloud computing held in Las Vegas, August 29th through September 1st at The Venetian. As part of VMworld 2011, Wyse is demonstrating their award-winning virtualization, management and cloud software and a wide range of thin, zero, mobile and cloud PC client hardware at Booth #1111.

Countless businesses today are responding to the arrival of the Post-PC era, looking to begin implementing cloud computing initiatives, but looking to avoid the hassle of complex device management. They seek an ambitious infrastructure, but one with easy configuration and management that scales and provides transparency into each and every device. Until now, most management products addressing this market were either overly narrow manual utilities and wizards, based on non-scalable, flat-file technology, or incompatible with existing standards and strategies.

For small companies, medium sized businesses, or large enterprises looking to implement cloud client computing, Wyse changes this, with a secure, automated management software suite that supports a broad array of fixed and mobile devices, is easy to implement, and scales to configure and manage tens of thousands of client devices from a variety of manufacturers. Full insight into each device is provided regardless of the number of clients, and management security is enforced via encrypted communications, strict credential checks and a full audit of operator activity.

For customers of all sizes, Wyse now offers the broadest suite of management software aimed at endpoints in traditional, cloud and VDI environments, and is capable of managing thin and zero clients, PCs, cloud PCs and diskless workstations through the following Wyse software solutions:

  • The flagship Wyse Device Manager (WDM) is the world's most licensed management software product for thin and zero clients with over 12 million licenses sold. WDM securely addresses key management requirements for deploying powerful thin and zero clients, including asset management, diagnostics, health reporting and firmware updates. With its centralized management and administration, WDM helps IT departments deliver more effective remote thin client support while minimizing end user downtime. The new WDM 4.9 introduces support for Wyse's P20 PCoIP zero client, and industry first support for automated configuration of Windows and Windows Embedded devices, enabling instant out-of-box productivity and user-aware functionality, eliminating the need to manually configure or reload the entire device software/firmware when changes occur in the environment or user needs. Exclusive to Wyse, and covered by 8 pending patents, this new capability makes Windows and Windows Embedded devices simpler to deploy and far less costly to own.
  • The new Wyse Configuration Manager (WCM), aimed at smaller installations with lighter management needs, provides the innovative self-configuring client technology for Windows Embedded virtual desktop environments in a stand-alone application and service. IT administrators can specify global, group, or user configurations using a simple standalone GUI or capture them from an already configured Wyse Windows Embedded device, and deploy them across the enterprise. WCM 1.1 has been expanded to add support for Windows Embedded Standard 2009. New features in WCM 1.1 include permissions for USB storage keys and Internet Explorer kiosk mode.
  • For enterprises standardized on Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and implementing a mix of PCs and Windows Embedded thin clients, Wyse has added Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 (WEDM) support to its thin client portfolio, enabling IT administrators to conveniently manage Wyse Windows Embedded devices from the same console they use to manage other computing systems like PCs, servers, and datacenters. WEDM solves many of the administrative issues unique to embedded devices, such as updating firmware when protected by the Write Filter, which redirects any attempted firmware changes to temporary storage, thereby ensuring the device's permanent media is protected and maintained in its original imaged state. WEDM provides the ability to manage write filters so that firmware updates deployed to Windows embedded devices persist while maintaining device security.
  • For enterprises deploying cloud or VDI environments wanting secure device firmware management and configuration they don't need to see or deal with, Wyse offers exclusive Wyse Automatic Management (WAM), a console-free fully automated firmware update and configuration capability now built-in to every Wyse thin and zero client based on Linux, Wyse ThinOS, and the Wyse Zero engine, as well as Wyse's software for optimizing and securing existing PCs for use with VDI, called Wyse PC Extender.
  • Lastly, for companies that can't move away from PCs due to environmental or application constraints, Wyse offers Wyse WSM, a software management solution for PCs, cloud PCs, and diskless workstations that centralizes and automates Windows OS and application management across the enterprise, including full application license management and metering. WSM's unique cloud approach to management is used by major educational institutions globally, the US government, and leading enterprises such as H&R Block.

"Based on our customers' feedback, we expanded our infrastructure management software portfolio and focused on a new vision to provide the most comprehensive infrastructure management software portfolio for any user or device in the industry," said Param Desai, Director of Product Management at Wyse. "Our next step is a bold, comprehensive, cloud-optimized infrastructure management software system that blends the capabilities of our existing management suite with new innovative software and strategic partnerships. Our goal is to make infrastructure management sexy again. We will optimize ease of deployment and use, cost effectiveness, and support for fixed, mobile and the explosion of handheld devices in the enterprise."

"Enterprises that want to deploy large-scale cloud computing initiatives are concerned about the management of so many additional devices," according to Bob O'Donnell, Vice President, Clients and Displays at IDC. "Companies such as Wyse that offer virtualization management solutions can allay the fears of IT executives looking to improve and simplify the management of their virtualized infrastructure. Attempting to scale and gain insight into device deployment via home-grown device management platforms simply won't cut it."

Wyse WDM 4.9 and WCM 1.1 will be available in Q4 and WAM and WSM are available immediately. For more information on Wyse management software, please see http://www.wyse.com/products/software
