Xandros Presto Powers-Up Laptops in Seconds

'Instant On' for Email, Chat or Skype, Web Browsing, Playing Games, Apps, Music, Videos, Movies From AppStore or Local Windows Folders, or Document Work, Without Waiting for Windows XP or Vista to Boot

PALM DESERT, CA--(Marketwire - March 3, 2009) - DEMO 2009 -- Xandros today announced Xandros Presto™, a full-featured 'instant on' solution to power up laptops within seconds. Presto is a downloadable software-only utility that doesn't require special chipsets to quickly boot new and existing laptops and PCs. Presto allows on-the-fly computing to check email, browse the web, chat with friends, make Skype calls, create documents, download media, apps and games, or enjoy music, videos, and movies even if stored in the laptop's Windows folders, without waiting for Windows to boot. Presto is compatible with most Windows Vista or XP laptops and desktops.

The OEM version is available immediately. A consumer download for $19.95 and a free trial version will be made available to the public on April 13, 2009 at (a beta version will be available on March 16). In order to build Presto, Xandros employed the technical expertise gained in creating the platform for the ASUS Eee PC, a product that powers up in seconds rather than minutes.

Unique Presto features include an online Presto AppStore to access additional software, games, multimedia and web applications. Presto comes as an easy Windows install. Best-of-breed applications include a full-featured office suite that lets users create and edit Microsoft Office documents, and save them to folders on their Windows drives. Presto connects to networks over WiFi, 3G, xDSL, LAN and cable. Additionally, Xandros Presto includes a 14-day free trial of Real Player SuperPass to watch TV online and listen to thousands of radio stations worldwide. The full SuperPass package comes with full-length movies, and monthly downloads of 10 songs, as well as one game.

"Showcasing trailblazing solutions that change the way we work and think is the mission of DEMO and Presto is just that kind of product," said Chris Shipley, DEMO Executive Producer.

"Instant boot Presto is an exciting break-through for laptop users. Road warriors don't want to only rely on their BlackBerry or iPhone while traveling. They want access to their Windows laptop with a large screen and a full keyboard, but without the wait for Windows to boot," said Andreas Typaldos, CEO of Xandros. "Those on the go often need to send emails, check the web, or make free international Skype-to-Skype calls from a taxi or before their flight takes off. Xandros Presto serves up the perfect fast-boot recipe created from our experience with PC driver and operating platform level technologies, optimization with chipset partners, and numerous tweaks and enhancements made during our intense development work with ASUS on the Eee PC."
