XBA Charities, 10 Years Pedaling: Cyclists From Several States Will Descend on Philadelphia to Participate in an Annual Memorial Day Bike to the Shore Benefitting Inner City Education

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - April 23, 2009) - The Xtreme Bikers Association will stage its 10th annual Bike to the Shore on Saturday, May 23, 2009. The 75-mile trek from Philadelphia, PA to Avalon, NJ will benefit The San Miguel School of Camden, NJ.

This year marks the 10th annual Bike to the Shore, organized by the Xtreme Bikers Association, a Philadelphia area cycling group. The organization's philanthropic arm, XBA Charities, a non-profit organization, utilizes the event as a vehicle to raise awareness and funds to support its mission -- improving inner city education.

The ride spans approximately 75 miles between the Philadelphia Art Museum and Avalon, NJ, stopping briefly at The San Miguel School in Camden. Started in 2000 as an adventure by then high school seniors John McConnell and Michael Day, the XBA's Bike to the Shore became a fund-raising event in 2006. Since the start of the ride in 2000, the number of riders has increased from two to 62, in 2008. Last year alone, the organization raised nearly $10,000 for The San Miguel School, and hopes to raise at least $15,000 this year.

The San Miguel School of Camden is a NativityMiguel model independent Catholic middle school with the mission of providing quality education to young men of low income families. For more information about The San Miguel School, please visit www.sanmiguelcamden.org.

Brother Joseph Juliano, FSC, the president of The San Miguel School, is an enthusiastic supporter of the XBA, and in 2008, volunteered his services as photographer, mechanic and motivator while driving one of the support vehicles. This year, a number of faculty and staff will be riding as well.

"The XBA's spirit of adventure and community service has made them a welcome addition to our school's supporters. Our boys and their parents will be at the school on event day providing water and cheering on the riders."

In 2009, the XBA plans to celebrate its tenth annual Bike to the Shore, increasing both its ridership and charitable support of The San Miguel School. This year's celebratory post-game barbeque will feature a performance by up-and-coming New York City folk rock band 'Left Me Bashful.'
