Canada & IFRS in 2011...Will you be Ready?

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 16, 2008) - XBRL Canada, member jurisdiction of XBRL International, encourages those interested in and affected by Canada's move to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to attend The IFRS - North America Conference in Toronto April 24-25. A stand-alone session highlighting XBRL, its use by regulators, issuers and analysts and its relationship to IFRS will be of particular interest to those involved in financial reporting.

Regulators from Canada and the United States, as well as international financial reporting experts, join senior representatives from the Canadian Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) and the US Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) at the conference, presented jointly by The International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) Foundation and The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). Sir David Tweedie, Chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), will provide a keynote address.

"The transition away from GAAP to IFRS is a monumental step for Canadian business," says Gerald Trites, project leader, XBRL Canada. "There is a natural fit between XBRL and IFRS, and we hope to better equip those reporting under IFRS with the tools they need to increase transparency and greatly improve the consistency of financial reporting between countries and across global economies."

The XBRL Special Interest Session will include discussions on XBRL from Canadian and U.S. perspectives, XBRL for assurance and IFRS conversion, roundtable Q&A, and more.

Speakers at the session include:

- Andrew Abouchar, XBRL Working Group, CFA Institute

- David Blaszokowsky, Director of Interactive Disclosure, US SEC

- Efrim Boritz, Head of IT and Assurance, School of Accountancy, University of Waterloo

- Andrew Lowe, Accountant, Corporate Finance, Ontario Securities Commission

- Olivier Servais, XBRL Team Leader, IASC Foundation
