xG Technology Announces Appointment of John Coleman and George Schmitt to Its Board of Directors

SARASOTA, FL--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - xG® Technology, Inc. (LSE: XGT) ("xG" or the "Company"), the developer of a broad portfolio of wireless communications technologies, including cognitive radio networks, is pleased to announce the appointment to its Board of both John Coleman as a new Executive Director and George Schmitt as a new Non-Executive Director.

John Coleman joined xG as a consultant and as a member of xG's Advisory Board in March 2010 with the mission to explore additional applications for the Company's underlying technologies in the Defense and Public Safety sectors. He was appointed as the Company's Chief Operating Officer in June 2010 and the Company's Chief Executive Officer in December 2010. He brings to xG 34 years combined experience in expeditionary operations from both government service and the private sector. In his final years as a U.S. Marine, he was posted as the Chief of Staff, 1st Marines Expeditionary Force for the first two years of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM supervising the largest field headquarters ever assembled in wartime by the Marines. Following government service, Mr. Coleman joined Hunter Defense Technologies and served for two and half years as Vice President of Business Development. Prior to joining xG, John Coleman established Joint Command and Control Consulting (JC3). JC3 provided consulting services focused on the development, integration, and delivery of mature and emerging technologies in support of expeditionary operations, particularly as related to command, control, and communications.

George Schmitt joined xG's Advisory Board in March 2010. George Schmitt has over 40 years of broad telecom experience in wireless and wireline companies. His experience includes Omnipoint Communication Services, where he was President and a Director until acquired by VoiceStream in 2000 (and which later became T-Mobile U.S.). Prior to joining Omnipoint, George was President and Chief Executive Officer of PCS PrimeCo (now part of Verizon Wireless), a national PCS partnership formed by AirTouch, Bell Atlantic, NYNEX and U.S. West. He came to PrimeCo from AirTouch, where he was Executive Vice President of International Operations responsible for AirTouch's operations in its ventures in Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Japan, Korea and Thailand. Before PrimeCo, George was a member of the board of management of Mannesmann Mobilfunk in Germany and also headed the company's technical department. His department's responsibilities included the complete development and operation of the D2 network, the first commercial GSM network in the world. He also served as the Chairman of the GSM Association, an international organization responsible for overseeing the worldwide implementation of GSM wireless technology.
