Xiotech Names Richard Lary Corporate Fellow

Experienced, Popular Storage Industry Figure Joins Company's Senior Management Team

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN--(Marketwire - December 17, 2009) - Xiotech Corporation, an innovator in data storage solutions, today announced that it has named Richard Lary to the role of Corporate Fellow. He assumed the position on Dec. 7, and he will play an integral role in developing and refining technologies and strategies for the company's future.

"Richard Lary is truly one of the smartest and most innovative people in our industry, and his record of achievement in data storage speaks for itself," said Xiotech President and CEO Alan Atkinson. "We can't wait for him to help us define and develop the next generations of our patented Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) technology, and make sure we remain the top innovator of solutions delivering superior storage value in existing and emerging areas."

With 40 years of industry experience and 32 patents in processor and storage system architecture and design to his name, Lary is a true heavyweight in data storage. He began his career as a software engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), and was a core member of the teams that defined the VAX computer architecture and implemented the first VAX computer. He joined DEC's Storage Business Unit in 1978, and was a key architect of its Digital Storage Architecture and a primary implementer of several of the hardware and firmware components of the related product family. He worked his way up to the position of Storage Technical Director for DEC, where he was responsible for technical oversight of the entire corporate storage architecture and product line, and continued in that role at Compaq. Since 2000, he has been an independent consultant and a technical advisor to several emerging storage companies. For his contributions, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 at the Server I/O Conference, and he frequently speaks at industry events. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.

"I've done quite a bit of consulting for Xiotech over the last six years, and I've been consistently impressed with the quality of their technology and the strength of their technical team," said Lary. "When the opportunity arose to join the company in a technical leadership role, I jumped at it."

"The addition of Richard Lary brings another experienced, innovative mind to Xiotech and its management team," said Benjamin S. Woo, vice president of storage systems research at IDC. "With his wealth of knowledge in computing and storage, Lary will bring a valuable perspective to Xiotech as it continues to bring its technologies to market. Xiotech is proving, through this and the other changes to its leadership team this quarter, that it is serious about increasing its profile and standing in the storage industry in the months to come."
