Xirrus Enables New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to Provide and Sell High-Density Wireless Networks

Sixth Largest Convention Center in the United States Supports Thousands of Concurrently Connected Phones, Tablets and Laptops With Xirrus Wireless Network; Administrators Cite Low Total Cost of Ownership and High Return on Investment in Providing Service to Its Nearly One Million Annual Visitors

THOUSAND OAKS, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 5, 2013) - Xirrus®, the leading provider of high-performance wireless networks, today announced the deployment of its Wireless Array solution at the newly renovated New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the sixth largest convention center in the United States, which includes 1.1 million square feet of contiguous exhibit space. Providing complete coverage of public spaces, meeting rooms, the New Orleans Theater/Conference Auditorium, The Great Hall and pre-function area, Xirrus Arrays and access points will support thousands of concurrently connected devices brought in by the convention center's nearly one million annual visitors.

The New Orleans Convention Center consistently ranks among the country's top ten facilities that hold the most conventions and tradeshows per year. Hosted events include the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference & Exhibition, Lexus National Dealer Meeting, American Dental Association (ADA) Annual Session, American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, 2013 American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting and Exposition, and the 2014 NBA All-Star Jam Session.

With a Xirrus wireless network in place, convention center administrators provide and sell high-density wireless network service to event organizers. Administrators cite low total cost of ownership and high return on investment since deployment of Xirrus.

"This is an industry whose success hinges on technology, and today's meeting planners and event organizers treat a robust wireless infrastructure and Internet backbone as a prerequisite," said Paul O'Connell, director of technology services at New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. "We had a wireless network that was less than two years old, but the influx of mobile devices over the past couple years forced us to reconsider the scalability of our current Wi-Fi infrastructure. We realized that we needed high-density wireless. Xirrus provides a cost-effective infrastructure that meets today's needs and will scale if we extend wireless connectivity to additional areas of the facility."

The Xirrus deployment involved a total of 97 Wireless Arrays and access points that incorporate an integrated wireless controller, built-in Application Control, wireless IDS/IPS, stateful firewall, spectrum analysis, guest access and Bonjour Director for iOS device optimization. Xirrus Wireless Arrays will enable the New Orleans Convention Center to scale to meet their customers' needs for any size and type of event; Xirrus modular solutions are highly scalable, feature integrated security for consistent performance and are fully upgradable to 802.11ac.

As part of the deployment, the New Orleans Convention Center also selected Xirrus Rapid Deployment Kits (RDK), which enables wireless network planners to create a wireless network in a matter of minutes. The combination of a Xirrus Wireless Array and the RDK provides a robust, portable Wi-Fi connectivity solution, supporting voice, video, and data access across a large area -- well suited to support meetings, conferences, expositions, festivals, and disaster situations.

"Our rich portfolio of convention center customers has made Xirrus the go-to supplier for outfitting the world's most impressive convention and event facilities," said Shane Buckley, chief executive officer of Xirrus. "Behind the success of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is the adoption of cutting-edge technology that gives organizers and administrators greater flexibility and more options for meeting the expectations of venue attendees. With 802.11ac-ready Wireless Arrays and access points in place, the convention center is equipped to provide high-performance Wi-Fi to attendees for many years to come."
