Xirrus Plug-and-Play In-Room Switch Delivers High-Performance Multi-Port Connectivity While Eliminating Expensive Infrastructure Upgrades

Uniquely Designed In-Wall Switch -- Geared for Hotel Rooms, Dorm Rooms, and Classrooms -- Provides High-Speed Connectivity for Delivering New IP Services

THOUSAND OAKS, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 12, 2013) - Xirrus, the leading provider in high-performance networks, today announced general availability of the XT-5003, a three-port in-wall Gigabit Ethernet Switch that provides wired port replication to support a wide range of in-room services. The XT-5003 switch provides plug-and-play simplicity for the delivery of wireless and wired-based IP-based services to users by leveraging existing cable infrastructure.

Traditionally, IT has had to install dedicated cables from the intermediate distribution frame (IDF) to each room to support devices requiring Internet connectivity. XT-5003 enables connectivity without additional cable infrastructure and without a separate switch being installed somewhere in the room. These capabilities are especially relevant in many older hotels and higher education campuses where it is difficult to run cables through the facility.

The XT-5003 operates on Power over Ethernet (PoE+), eliminating the need to run dedicated power to the switch. The XT-5003 can then be used to connect and power a PoE-enabled wireless access point to deliver wireless services to the room and potentially adjacent rooms in addition.

The three-port switch provides the flexibility to connect devices from either the front panel or in-wall connections via 10/100/1000Mbps autosensing ports. The XT-5003 supports QoS with 802.1p VLAN prioritization, which ensures appropriate allocation of bandwidth to critical applications.

XT-5003 provides hotels with the ability to offer guests in-room Internet access for multiple devices and other amenities such as network-enabled television. It enables colleges and universities to provide high-speed connectivity in dorm rooms for laptops, in-room printers, smartphones, iPads, and other devices, whether connected by wireless or wired.

"Access to fast, reliable Internet connectivity is no longer a luxury in today's society -- people expect it to be there," says Jason Leung, director of product management at Xirrus. "The XT-5003 is bringing to market a unique solution that simplifies multiple in-room device connectivity to the network with fewer cables, fewer IT budget dollars, and a greatly reduced infrastructure investment."
