Yammer Extends Its Platform Across the Enterprise With Yammer Connect

Companies and Developers Gain New Ways to Make the Enterprise More Social and Connected

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 24, 2011) - Yammer, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise social networking, today announced the latest addition to the Yammer Platform -- Yammer Connect -- a host of social plug-ins that companies can use to connect their intranet and business applications with Yammer and add Yammer feeds to these tools. The plug-ins are designed to cultivate a more connected enterprise, enabling companies to extend Yammer's social functionality across the applications in which employees are already spending their time.

With an open API, Yammer believes in the power of community development, giving customers and developers the tools to be able to extend Yammer's core functionality to custom built or existing applications. With today's announcement, thousands of Yammer developers will have access to additional resources that offer a way to more easily integrate business applications with Yammer and make Yammer feeds more flexible and portable.

"Since Yammer's inception, making our API public has been an important part of our mission to create a more open, social and connected enterprise," said David Sacks, founder and CEO, Yammer. "The new tools we are introducing will allow companies and developers to incorporate Yammer into other applications in a more meaningful way that enables employees to more readily share and discover information."

Making the Enterprise More Social and Connected
In an effort to connect the entire business ecosystem, Yammer today introduced the Login Button, which allows Yammer's more than three million users to bring their Yammer identity, profile information and corporate social graph with them to third party applications. Using the JavaScript API, developers can add the Yammer Login Button to their applications, lowering the barrier to registration and making it easier to achieve distribution inside the enterprise. The API also gives developers the ability to leverage Yammer user profiles, message feeds, and other components of the corporate social graph to create more dynamic applications and help users discover more relevant content.

The Yammer Login Button provides the following benefits to users:

  • Trusted Authentication - Easily authenticate into third party applications using their Yammer identity
  • Single Identity - Maintain one business-oriented identity across the enterprise in a secure environment
  • Social Sharing - Share activity from third-party applications with colleagues back on Yammer

Harnessing the Power of Feeds
Designed to provide increased flexibility to enterprises, Yammer Embed, which was announced earlier this year, is now in beta and will be generally available later this quarter. Delivering Yammer feeds into existing business applications, such as the company intranet, CRM tools or content management systems, Yammer Embed lets employees view, post and reply to messages in the context of their work.

With Yammer Embed, companies benefit from the following features:

  • Increased Flexibility - Add Yammer's social functionality wherever employees are working using simple JavaScript embed code
  • In Context Conversations - Employees can have real-time conversations in the context of the projects they are working on, without having to navigate to a separate application
  • Uninterrupted Work Flow - Teams can have dynamic discussions alongside their business projects without disrupting natural work flows
  • Content Discovery - Because all Yammer Embed conversations are logged in Yammer, other members of the company can participate even if they are not working in the same application, which prevents information from becoming siloed
  • Mobile Access - Users can also contribute to conversations happening inside other applications from their mobile devices

"With Yammer Embed, we'll be able to add real-time conversations to the applications where our faculty, staff and students are already working," said Susan Gautsch, director of eLearning, Graziadio School of Business and Management, Pepperdine University. "This will allow them to have an ongoing dialog in the context of their existing projects."

Leveraging the Yammer Platform
Yammer continues to add new functionality and supporting documentation to its platform in an effort to cultivate a dynamic ecosystem of developers building for the enterprise. Today Yammer released the JavaScript API, which helps developers transform existing business applications into social, personalized experiences by incorporating Yammer profiles, message feeds and the corporate social graph. All of the Yammer Connect plug-ins are built on the Yammer JavaScript API, and developers can also create their own custom plug-ins using the documentation.

Earlier this year, Yammer also announced the Activity Stream API and extensions to the Open Graph Protocol, which enable third-party applications to publish activity stories to Yammer and give Yammer the ability to treat business objects from the intranet or other applications as part of the Yammer social graph. Companies like NetSuite are integrating with Yammer via the Activity Stream API, so that updates from NetSuite can be shared on the Yammer Activity Stream. Through the Activity Stream API, Yammer also integrates with, allowing CRM data to flow into Yammer.

Yammer strives to bring enterprise social networking functionality across the entire enterprise and foster a more connected workforce. Through these advancements to the Yammer Platform, Yammer provides developers with the tools to create deeply social experiences for employees and deliver on Yammer's vision to build a more connected, more productive enterprise.

Availability and Pricing
The Login Button and the Yammer JavaScript API are available immediately. Yammer Embed is currently in beta and will be available to all users later in Q3. Yammer Embed will be available for free to all customers for the remainder of 2011, but will only be available to Yammer Premium customers beginning in 2012. The Login Button and the JavaScript API are available free of charge.
