yap.TV's First Second Screen Simulcast, Featuring Actor Ian Somerhalder, Draws 72,679 Viewers During the Presidential Debate

Additional Simulcast Planned for Final Presidential Debate

LOS ALTOS, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 18, 2012) - yap.TV, the leader in social television, in conjunction with the "Choose Your America" campaign founded by Richard Greene, hosted a live second screen simulcast with Ian Somerhalder, actor for the hit series The Vampire Diaries, on yap.TV for iOS. The simulcast enabled fans to watch Ian and engage with him as he watched the Presidential debate live Tuesday night between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney.

"yap.TV really delivered in bringing thousands of my fans together to watch the debate with me in a forum where we could interact and share the viewing experience," said Ian Somerhalder. "We all need to realize that each and every vote counts, and that we are collectively deciding on our future."

yap.TV's social platform brings together TV fans around TV content, and offers a host of features designed to extend the consumer experience on the second screen. In addition to the live stream with Ian, fans could peruse a streaming Facebook feed delivering all of the latest content on the debate in real-time. In addition, fans could browse through media, participate in user-generated polls, and Tweet with Ian and other fans.

"yap.TV is pioneering how social media can harness the audience and get them to engage," said Trevor Stout, CEO, yap.TV. "Getting tens of thousands of people to participate with Ian validates the effectiveness of live simulcasts within our feature-rich social platform."

The response from fans around the country was exceptional, drawing 72,679 viewers over the 90-minute debate. The reactions from fans delivered on the objective of the simulcast -- to get viewers engaged and encourage them to vote:
