Yeast Culture Manufacturer Vi-COR® Offers Mastitis Workshop at Central Plains Dairy Expo

MASON CITY, IA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2011) - Marko Sosa of Vi-COR®, a manufacturer of specialized yeast culture products for poultry, swine and dairy feed, will present an Udder Dissection Wet Lab and Mastitis Workshop at Central Plains Dairy Expo March 29-31 at the Sioux Falls (SD) Convention Center. The presentation and hands-on demonstration will be offered to attendees at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 30 and repeated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31.

The Udder Dissection Wet Lab and Mastitis Workshop is part of Vi-COR's Milk To The Max® free bilingual educational program for dairy workers. Sosa is a Milk To The Max customer support specialist, along with Marco Lopez, Ron Medeiros and Mario Solis Flores. Milk To The Max customer support specialists evaluate the dairy environment and milking procedures and provide a verbal report to the dairy owner and nutritionist, including a presentation to the workers that is specific to each dairy. The verbal report summarizes findings and provides recommendations for improving milk production and herd health. Vi-COR's Milk To The Max team goes on the dairy on behalf of the nutritionist, who includes A-Max® or Celmanax® yeast culture products in their feed ration.

Vi-COR began offering the Udder Dissection Wet Lab and Mastitis Workshop last summer. "Mastitis is a very complex subject to understand, and it is the most expensive disease in the dairy industry," says Sosa. Mastitis occurs when the udder becomes inflamed. The resulting elevated somatic cell count causes a reduction in milk production and quality. The lab dissection workshop gives dairy workers a unique look at the importance of cleanliness and proper technique.

When Milk To The Max launched in 2003, one staff person serviced 30 dairies. This year the four customer support specialists will visit over 400 dairies around the world.

Since entering the yeast industry in 1990, Vi-COR has focused on research and development of innovative products. Visitors to the company's web site, www.vi-cor.com, can learn about research trials involving dairy, poultry, beef and swine.
