Yeast Culture Manufacturer Vi-COR® Opens 70,000-Square-Foot Plant to Produce Soluble Concentrated Three-in-One Product

MASON CITY, IA--(Marketwire - Apr 27, 2011) - Vi-COR®, a manufacturer of specialized yeast culture products for poultry, swine and dairy feed, opened a 70,000-square-foot manufacturing plant and warehouse this month dedicated to producing a unique new product. Celmanax® SCP is the industry's first-ever combination yeast soluble concentrated powder product. It combines three yeast components -- hydrolyzed yeast, yeast extract and yeast culture -- processed and dried without a carrier. "This gives the end-user a product with no GMO issues," says Mark Holt, Vi-COR's President. "Development of an innovative product with no carrier went hand-in-hand with development of a new process for delivering the product."

Vi-COR's new production process uses considerably less energy to manufacture and reduces the amount of energy required to transport product around the world. "Celmanax SCP is a much more effective product with a much greener footprint," says Holt. The product is 9x more concentrated for dairy cows than Celmanax Dry, requires less storage space and mixes easily in dairy milk replacers, poultry watering systems and VTMs. Celmanax is also offered in dry and liquid concentrations.

Vi-COR's new facility is located in Mason City, Iowa, close to the original manufacturing plant, which will continue to run production on three shifts. Holt says the new plant and its production of Celmanax SCP will create opportunities with innovative applications and untapped markets for yeast-based products. Celmanax SCP is being shipped overseas and distributed across the USA. The new plant is designed to accommodate tours and includes windows so visitors can have a convenient view the manufacturing process as they walk through. Headquarters offices will move to the new facility in the future.

Holt says that offering a soluble concentrated version of Celmanax further enhances an already beneficial product. "When Vi-COR developed Celmanax, we created a whole new class of yeast culture," he explains, adding that they use a proprietary blend of enzymes and process techniques to separate the beneficial structural components of the yeast cell wall. The three-in-on product improves palatability and feed intake.

In addition to research and innovative products, Vi-COR also emphasizes education. Milk to the Max® is the company's free bilingual education program for customers. The program has been especially beneficial to dairy producers with somatic cell count issues.
