MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 21, 2011) - All Yellow Pages Group (YPG) advertiser phone numbers found online are now active as "Free Calls" to some Skype users, as the company leverages the online communications platform to drive additional potential customers to businesses. This feature reflects an agreement announced in February between YPG and Seattle's Marchex, the leading call advertising company that helps manage, operate and sell Click & Call Advertising with Skype.
While Skype calls to landlines and mobile phones are normally associated with a fee, YPG is enabling some Skype users to freely connect to any of the 370,000 businesses currently advertising with the company.
"Digital tools are an essential part of any marketing mix and we use a multi-channel approach when determining how to best promote our advertisers," said Stéphane Marceau, Chief Marketing Officer at Yellow Pages Group. "The Skype platform is a natural fit as more and more searches are being completed online. Our network alone sees over 11 million unique visitors each month and we're pleased to be able to offer free Skype calls to the landline and mobile phones of our clients at no extra charge, providing yet another channel for customers to reach them."
Click & Call Advertising with Skype highlights participating advertisers' phone numbers with a blue Free Call button anywhere those numbers are displayed on the Internet to users of Skype for Windows with the Skype Toolbar plug-in enabled. When the call button is clicked, the Skype software launches and the call is connected – at no cost to the caller. To see how it works, view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZEfEU4O_YA
"Marchex, YPG and Skype recognize the important shift that has taken place where phone calls are reconnecting consumers and businesses. We are proud to partner with YPG and Skype to help boost the visibility of businesses advertising with YPG and contribute to the unmatched value that YPG marketing can provide Canadian enterprises," said Tamara Colagrossi, Director of Corporate Marketing at Marchex.
To enable free calling to businesses advertising with YPG, users should download and enable the Skype Toolbar plug-in for Windows.
Skype is a software that allows users to make voice and video calls over the Internet. Skype had 145 million average monthly connected users for the three months ending Dec. 31 2010. At peak times, approximately 29 million concurrent users are logged into Skype at any given time, as of February 2011.
