Yellow Pages Group Warns Canadian Businesses About Phone Book Scams

Provides information to advertisers about detecting fraudulent solicitation

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 4, 2009) - In response to a recent spike in fraudulent solicitation by companies claiming they are Yellow Pages Group (YPG), the company is encouraging Canadian businesses to be on the lookout in order to protect themselves from directory advertising scams.

YPG reminds businesses that there is only one real Yellow Pages™ directory that carries the Yellow Pages™ brand and Walking Fingers™ & Design logo in Canada. YPG is the exclusive owner of these trademarks in the country. Before buying any print, online or specialty directory advertising product, YPG encourages business to take the following steps:

1. In person, ask to see the representative's business card and a copy of the current directory.

2. On the phone, ask the promoter if he is authorized to represent Yellow Pages Group (or any other directory publisher in Canada). Don't hesitate to ask more questions about the product, web site, company, etc.

3. Ask for written information about the directory distribution, circulation and features.

4. Verify with your previous account manager that the company or representative contacting you is legitimate.

YPG has developed a fact sheet providing useful tips to avoid becoming a victim of such a scam. To view the fact sheet, click here:
