Yik Yak Wins Fastest Rising Startup Award at 2015 TechCrunch Crunchies

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - Feb 6, 2015) - Yik Yak, the social messaging app for hyper-local engagement, today announced it has received the Fastest Rising Startup award at the 8th annual TechCrunch Crunchies. The event recognizes the companies and individuals that have made the biggest impression on the industry and their peers in the past year. Previous winners of the Fastest Rising Startup award are Snapchat and Upworthy.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be recognized as one of the most successful apps in the startup space this year," said Tyler Droll, cofounder and CEO. "When we first launched the app, we set out to create a more engaging social platform that was built on local communities and interactions. Today, the app has spread throughout the country and continues to expand globally as more users embrace the value of local, open communication."

"It's an honor to receive such high accolades from the tech community," said Brooks Buffington, cofounder and COO. "We've worked tirelessly over the past year to bring the best experience to our users and create an app that provides something new to the ever-evolving social media landscape. We believe Yik Yak is in the perfect position to create a more connected world and improve local communications to better support the flow of relevant information."

Founded in late 2013 by entrepreneurs Brooks Buffington and Tyler Droll, Yik Yak is aimed at connecting individuals within a 1.5-mile geographical radius and providing an unfiltered, authentic pulse of any community.

Yik Yak is currently available for download on iOS and Android devices.
