YMCA & The Foundry Host Rock & Row Riversport Challenge During Republican National Convention

The YMCA of Greater Cleveland & The Foundry Rowing & Sailing Training Center Will Host Major Riversport Challenge During the RNC to Raise Funds for YMCA Youth Rowing

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwired - June 15, 2016) - The YMCA of Greater Cleveland and The Foundry announced today a major event during the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The event, the "Rock & Row Riversport Challenge," will occur on Wednesday, July 20th, 2016, and will feature sunrise yoga, a kayak fun tour, a DragonBoat Battle-Paddle, and a championship Rowing Stake Race. This event will be one of the few outdoor charity events during the RNC, and all proceeds of the event will go to fund the new YMCA rowing program hosted at The Foundry.

"We are very excited about this partnership with The Foundry and the potential to bring attention to a new offering by the Greater Cleveland YMCA," said Joe Cerny, interim chief executive officer of the YMCA. "By bringing the attention to these sports, we can expose more of Cleveland's youth than ever before to our greatest resource: our waterfront."

The Foundry, Cleveland's training center for rowing and sailing student-athletes, expressed their enthusiasm for the program and the Rock and Row event during the RNC. "The last time anyone talked about our river…it was on fire," said Aaron Marcovy, executive director of The Foundry. "Now we're putting high schoolers on it. The event will serve as the fundraising catalyst for this fantastic YMCA program, which we hope to bring to all of Cleveland's young people."

The Rock and Row event will begin at 6:00 am with yoga instructed by YMCA's yoga team. The Dragonboat event will be conducted by the Cleveland Dragonboat Association, and the kayaking and rowing portions will be conducted by The Foundry.
