York University Entry a "Rule the Tube" Finalist

CAs Choose Schulich School of Business Entry for Their Video Contest

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 22, 2010) - The finalists in the Rule the Tube CA video competition have been announced and now all eyes turn to November 26 when the voting stops and the winners are announced. Among the finalists is John Tan of York University's Schulich School of Business.

Ontario university and high school students were given a chance to bring out their inner video auteur – whether it's Christopher Nolan serious, Will Ferrell funny or Andy Samberg silly – in the first Rule the Tube CA video competition. The theme is "Why being a Chartered Accountant rocks" and the winning entry will get $1,500 in addition to the obvious fame and glory.

The finalists are:

  • Richard Jagielowicz of Thunder Bay's Lakehead University for "CA Rockstar". Richard wrote and composed his own song to explain why CAs rock. Guitar shredding included.
  • Vedant Pandey of the University of Windsor for "...CAuse you CAn!!!" A humorous computer generated animation about the possibilities having a CA designation brings.
  • John Tan of York University's Schulich School of Business for "John's Reel". Want to wear a sweet bow tie? John shows you how to work as a CA with style.
  • Danny Hoshi of Mississauga's Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School for "Danny The CA". Danny used his musical skills explain how to be a CEO… or anything that ends in O.
  • Angelo Gatto of Stittsville's Sacred Heart Secondary School for "Why CA's Rock Rap". Angelo from the "613" shows you what being a CA can be like.
  • Tina Lao of Toronto's William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate for "Ruling the World 101". A very talented artist draws out people's career possibilities.

"As part of our overall Rule the World campaign for prospective future CAs, we're giving students a chance to show-off their video-making skills and compete for cash," said Jon French, Associate Director, Career Information with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. "It's been fun and we had a great time choosing the finalists. Now we're looking forward to getting the public's input on which videos are the best of the best."

A big part of the contest is based on how well people promote their video. The more views, likes and positive ratings received on YouTube, the better, although negative ratings and comments will not be counted. People are invited to vote for their favourite video with the winner announced Friday, November 26. Aside from $1,500 for the winners, each of the other finalists will receive $200.

The Rule the Tube video competition – just one more reason why Chartered Accountants rock.
