Yorktown Family Services: Honourable Michael J. L. Kirby to Receive 2009 Humanitarian Award for Community Service

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 6, 2009) - Yorktown Family Services is pleased to celebrate the selection of the Honourable Michael J. L. Kirby as recipient of the 2009 Yorktown Family Services Humanitarian Award for Community Service at the 10th annual Yorktown Family Services Tribute Dinner on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Toronto's Old Mill Inn.

The Annual Tribute Dinner will open with remarks by the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, as he offers congratulations to the recipient and greetings to all attendees.

Esteemed academic, successful businessman and former Senator, the Honourable Michael J. L. Kirby is recognized by Yorktown Family Services for his resolve, passion and determination to bring issues of mental health to the forefront. Michael's vision and leadership in the preparation of the "Out of the Shadows at Last" report has provided the recommendations that will transform the future of mental health in Canada. In his current role as Chair of the Mental Health Commission of Canada Michael has become the champion for the mental health cause in Canada.

This prestigious award is presented annually to an individual who has shown outstanding leadership and has had a significant impact in improving the lives of children, youth, women and families in Canada. Mr. Kirby joins a distinguished list of leading Canadian humanitarians who have been recognized with this compassionate designation including Margo Franssen, the Honourable Margaret Norrie McCain, June Callwood, Barbara Hall, Charlie Coffey, Charles Pascal, the Honourable David Crombie, the Honourable Bob Rae and Arlene Perly Rae, and Fergie Brown.

The Honourable Pamela Wallin will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening's tributes that are bound to bring together hundreds of guests including representatives from all levels of government, as well as members of business, academic, social services, literary and legal communities.
