You Turn for a Second to Get the Milk, and Your Child Goes Missing. What Do You Do?

NATIONAL MISSING CHILDREN DAY

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 20, 2009) - The Missing Children Society of Calgary (MCSC)

WHERE: Deer Point Sobeys
14939 Deer Ridge Drive SE, Calgary

WHEN: National Missing Children Day
Monday, May 25th
11:00 am

WHAT:

- The Missing Children Society of Calgary (MCSC), together with Sobeys Southern Alberta, will run a mock demonstration of the CODE ADAM alert.

- The CODE ADAM program operates in countless retail stores across North America, yet many citizens aren't aware of the extensive "lock down" that is involved when a child is reported missing and the store puts the program into action.

- The mock CODE ADAM will offer a glimpse of the real experience when a child is reported missing in a retail store.

- Sobeys Southern Alberta will also announce the launch of its point-of-sale fundraising initiative in support of MCSC's "Light the Way Home" campaign.

WHY:

- An average of 60,000 children are reported missing every year in Canada. That's the equivalent of 1 child every 9 minutes.

- Each year on May 25th, National Missing Children Day, MCSC offers a show of support for our missing children and their loved ones. It is a day of remembrance, and it is a day of renewed hope.

- MCSC helps approximately 300 searching families every year and has assisted police in closing over 5,400 missing children cases since 1986.
