You're doing it wrong: CLC President Reacts to CBC Cuts

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 27, 2014) - The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) shares the sense of shock and dismay at the deep cuts announced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Reacting to news that up to 1,500 jobs will be eliminated in the coming years and an abandonment of local television and radio services, CLC President Hassan Yussuff pointed his finger at the Harper government.

"Cutting what amounts to 25% of the staff by cutting time for local news broadcasts and in-house production diminishes our ability to tell Canadian stories. Today's cuts are yet another symptom of a country being taken in the wrong direction by a government with the wrong agenda," said Yussuff.

Yussuff said it's time for governments to invest in Canadians and our collective future - something that is more than possible with the healthy budget surplus already being promised.

The Canadian Labour Congress, the national voice of the labour movement, represents 3.3 million Canadian workers. The CLC brings together Canada's national and international unions along with the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 111 district labour councils
