Yuba® Bicycles and Currie Tech Win Gold 2015 EUROBIKE AWARD for Spicy Curry Cargo Bike

PETALUMA, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 26, 2015) - Yuba® Bicycles, a leader of innovative and stylish cargo bikes that is transforming the urban cycling transportation market in America with affordable pedal and electric-assist cargo bikes, and leading e-bike propulsion systems developer Currie Technologies, today received a Gold 2015 EUROBIKE AWARD, the most prestigious award in the cycling industry, for the all-new Spicy Curry Cargo Bike. CEO and Founder Benjamin Sarrazin accepted the award for Spicy Curry during an award ceremony at the 2015 EUROBIKE Show in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

The all-new Spicy Curry electric cargo bike, unveiled in July, enables riders of all ages to transport children and goods up to 300 lbs. with ease, comfort and peace of mind. Spicy Curry is packed with performance; the single unit aluminum frame weighs just 55 lbs. and has pavement cruising power with a class-leading 350W power plant from Currie Technologies. Spicy Curry offers a ton of torque -- perfect for getting ahead of traffic and climbing up that last hill home, fully-loaded with children and groceries. 20 miles per hour has never felt so natural. The software on Spicy Curry is smart; a gentle press on the pedals allows riders to get ahead of traffic, and with a touch on the brakes allows riders to decelerate quickly.

"We are honored and delighted to receive the most significant award in the bike industry for Spicy Curry," said Benjamin Sarrazin, Founder and CEO of Yuba Bicycles. "As a U.S.-based company, to be recognized by the European cycling community validates and speaks directly to our innovation and leadership in the nascent cargo bike market. As we continue to grow our market in North America and educate and evangelize how consumers can rely on cargo bikes as a viable mode of transportation, the prestigious EUROBIKE award will provide a fantastic platform for Yuba and our dealers."

The Spicy Curry was developed in collaboration with Simi Valley, CA based Currie Tech, a leader in e-bike propulsion systems and bicycle design since 1997.

"The Spicy Curry demonstrates the best of Yuba's and Currie Tech's core competencies," explains Larry Pizzi, president of Currie Tech. "Yuba is unmatched in its ability to design and engineer a long-tail cargo bike that rides well, and Currie Tech's proprietary Electro-Drive™ propulsion system provides better torque than any other drivetrain. Together, the frame and drivetrain combine to form an ideal transportation solution."

The collaboration between Currie Tech and Yuba began less than a year ago, when Pizzi met Yuba Bicycles' founder and owner Benjamin Sarrazin at the 2014 Sea Otter Classic. The two men quickly saw the appeal and mutual benefit of working together on the design, sale, and aftermarket service of an electric, long-tail cargo bike.

The EUROBIKE AWARD competition was hosted by the EUROBIKE show in Friedrichshafen for the eleventh year. The selection panel is comprised of up six expert judges who assessed and evaluated 500 product innovations from ten categories. Of those 500, the top ranking 64 companies were chosen based on criteria in the following categories: degree of innovation, functionality, design, choice of materials, workmanship, sustainability, price-performance, weight/pack size and added value.
