Yukon Electrical Company Limited has launched a live web camera that is capturing every moment of a bald eagle family raising its young hatchlings. The web camera began broadcasting in May and has captured many candid moments of the eagle family including the hatching of the eaglets. The web camera feed can be viewed at www.yukonelectrical.com.

"This project has been incredibly rewarding for Yukon Electrical and all the organizations who have worked with us to make this happen," said Dwight Redden, General Manager, Yukon Electrical. "The amount of excitement generated by the camera was more than we could have expected. The site has had over 160,000 views and we've had inquiries from all over the world about the project."

Yukon Electrical's history with this nest, located in downtown Whitehorse, dates back to 2006 when the company worked with Environment Yukon to rescue two eaglets that had been washed out of a previous nest during a storm that year. Since that time, Yukon Electrical has unofficially adopted the nesting location by donating an electric pole, assisting in the construction of a new permanent base and maintaining the nest when necessary. This year, Yukon Electrical, working with the City of Whitehorse and Environment Yukon, installed the web camera in February, prior to the eagle's arrival, to ensure they were not disturbed. The web camera allows the company to keep a closer eye on their adopted family and offer the public a rare opportunity to learn more about these majestic birds.

Yukon Electrical has been providing electrical service to Yukoners for over a century and is a member of the ATCO Group of Companies. ATCO works with government and environment groups to create and maintain an Avian Protection Plan. Initiatives within the plan include diverting birds from electrical equipment, carefully moving nest sites and creating appropriate nest habitats.
