Yummy Plants Launches Community for Healthful, Plant-Based Meals

Vegan Thanksgiving Recipes Featured as Part of Community's Focus on Improving Health via Plant-Based Lifestyle

PITTSBURGH, PA--(Marketwire - Nov 22, 2011) - Yummy Plants has unveiled an online community to help people explore a plant-based life at http://www.yummyplants.com. Yummy Plants currently features a section that spotlights vegan Thanksgiving recipes, designed to help people approach the upcoming holiday season informed, and well-positioned to make more healthful, delicious, plant-based meals for themselves and their guests.

Founded by Rebecca Gilbert, a former competitive figure skater who dramatically changed her life by switching to a plant-based diet, Yummy Plants provides support and information for everyone about eating healthy, plant-based meals.

"I've seen in my own life that we can make huge changes in our health by making changes in our diets," said Rebecca Gilbert, founder and CEO, Yummy Plants. "This topic is a top priority for a large cross-section of people, and we've tapped prominent plant-based experts around the world to share their knowledge with our community. We look forward to bringing new content to our members on an ongoing basis."

Yummy Plants features recipes from Alexandra Jamieson, author of "Vegan Cooking for Dummies"; Executive Chef Russell Svoboda of the all-vegan restaurant "Great Sage;" Chef Charlie Ayers of Calafia in Palo Alto; Christy Morgan, author of "Blissful Bites"; and renowned nutritarian Dr. Joel Fuhrman of Diseaseproof.com. The Health Tips by Doctors section features a special two-part interview with Dr. Neal Barnard, the President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

"I believe the Yummy Plants community has something for everyone -- it's a resource for people who want to eat more vegetables, and for those who want to transition to a vegan diet," said Gilbert.

Yummy Plants' target audience includes America's 3 million vegans (according to 2009 statistics from Vegetarian Group) and the more than 250 million Americans whose health problems can be improved with a plant-based diet (www.pcrm.org). These health issues include:
