Z2Live Secures Venture Funding to Expand Distribution of Its Mobile Social Games

Ed Fries, Former Vice President of Game Publishing at Microsoft, Joins Company's Board

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - March 21, 2011) - Z2Live, creating the next generation of mobile games, announced that it has closed a Series B investment from venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson joining Z2Live's original investor, Madrona Venture Group. This investment recognizes the runaway success of Z2Live's launch title, Trade Nations, and the overall market opportunity to bring social gaming to mobile. The company also announced that Ed Fries, a longtime video games pioneer and industry veteran joined the company's board as its first outside director. Mr. Fries is well known to the industry as a co-founder of the Xbox Project and the original builder of Microsoft's Game Studios.

"While the early success of Trade Nations has made Z2Live a self sustaining, profitable company, this adds a world class investor and strengthens our board," remarked David Bluhm, CEO of Z2Live Inc. "This investment allows us to accelerate globally and also add to an already very strong team behind the company."

William Bryant, a long time technology entrepreneur and early stage investor, will join Z2Live's board from DFJ. "Although mobile gaming is still nascent, early winners are already emerging and we're convinced Z2Live is one of those winners," commented Bryant. "We're thrilled to be involved with what we believe is the strongest, most experienced team in mobile gaming."

Popular smart phones, like the iPhone and Android, are turning gaming from a male-dominated stronghold into a mass-market form of entertainment, according to a new report by Flurry Analytics. The report concludes, "Mobile social gamers are the new mass-market powerhouse." Games based on a "Freemium" model now represent a majority of the top grossing games on Apple's iTunes as free-to-play is rapidly proving to be an attractive financial model.
