Zagster Expands National Footprint of University Bike-Share Programs With Launches This Fall From Texas to Maine

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwired - Sep 7, 2016) -  As students across the country return to campus this fall, increasingly they are finding that their dorm rooms come with a set of wheels -- two wheels, that is. With the launch of Zagster's bike-share program at Dartmouth College, along with five other new or expanded bike-share programs in the past three weeks, Zagster offers bike-share programs on more campuses than any other provider.

"Campuses are perfect places for bike sharing, and our fully managed programs enable universities to offer a healthy, convenient and environmentally friendly transportation option," said Timothy Ericson, Zagster co-founder and CEO.

The new systems bring Zagster's collegiate footprint to more than 20 campuses in 14 states and Canada. From small private colleges to massive state schools, and from rural areas to some of the nation's biggest cities, Zagster works collaboratively with universities to precision-build programs that best suit each campus' setting, size and budget.

The latest round of Zagster partners includes West Chester University, in Pennsylvania; the University of New England, in Maine; Tarleton State University and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, in Texas; the University of Windsor, in Ontario, Canada; and Dartmouth College, in New Hampshire. In August, Zagster also expanded its program at Purdue University into the surrounding towns of Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana, due to robust ridership and popular demand.

Zagster's university programs reduce congestion and parking demand, and alleviate transit strain. In addition, they provide a cost-effective alternative to other transit infrastructure, such as parking spaces -- which cost, on average, between $20,000 - $40,000 per space -- while serving far more users per day.

For students, Zagster offers a convenient, affordable alternative to car or bike ownership. Students have a 53 percent chance of losing personal bikes to theft, while bringing a car to college costs on average $20,000 over four years, according to Forbes. And as an app-based, on-demand service, Zagster is a perfect fit for today's mobile-first, on-the-go students.
