ZAPS Learning Company Becomes Doorway to College

Doorway to College Now Providing a Full Scope of ZAPS Test Prep Products and College Prep Services

IOWA CITY, IA--(Marketwired - Oct 1, 2014) - ZAPS™ Learning Company, an industry leader in college test prep products and services, announces its name change to Doorway to College™.

Founded by Douglas J. Paul, Ph.D., in 1984, ZAPS previously provided ACT test prep and PSAT/SAT test prep services as its sole business. Under the Doorway to College umbrella, ZAPS Focused Test Prep encompasses seminars, webinars, streaming video, and digital ZAPS Score Boosters™.

Why the Name Change?

"Until recently, ZAPS instruction encompassed our full line of services," says Dr. Paul. "Today, however, our support to high school students is no longer limited to test preparation."

According to a report by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, a typical high school counselor spends only "38 minutes per year on each student for college advising." A huge gap lies between the college prep students need and the counseling their schools can realistically provide.

In response, Doorway to College has developed a range of college-prep services addressing the entire path to higher learning -- from college entrance exams through the financial aid application process through selecting a college.

"On the strength of 30 years of experience working in cooperation with high schools, Doorway to College is expanding its offerings to meet the new challenges of today's students as they transition from high school to higher education," says Dr. Paul.

Options for Students and Parents

The company assists students and parents in preparing for college through parent night presentations, free webinars, downloadable e-books, and other learning opportunities. For high school athletes, Doorway to College also offers guidance in navigating the complex recruiting process through the Student-Athlete e-book series.

"Students need to know how important it is to research the vast options in front of them in order to choose the best 'fit' for them personally when it comes to their higher education options," says guidance counselor Lisa C. Scott, a member of the Doorway to College Advisory Council.

The transition from high school to college is often stressful, and the college application process is more complicated than ever. Parents and students should not hesitate to seek expert assistance. "With the full suite of practical and powerful college prep services that Doorway to College offers, families are better equipped to make wise decisions that set their student up for success, in college and beyond," says Doorway to College president Julia Wasson.

Company Overview
Each year, tens of thousands of high school students across the nation participate in ZAPS ACT and PSAT/SAT test preparation. ZAPS has been documented as effective in four independent school studies in Colorado and Illinois.
