Zeiss Announces New Milvus Line of ZE and ZF.2 Fast Prime Lenses, More Info: B&H

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - September 10, 2015) - B&H Photo is excited to share the announcement of Zeiss’s new Milvus lens line, containing six new fast prime lenses for Canon EF and Nikon F mount cameras. The Milvus line is positioned just below the top-of-the-line Otus, and will replace most of the current lineup of ZE and ZF.2 lenses.

In keeping with the aesthetic appeal of the Otus, Batis, and Touit lenses, these primes see a similar full-metal construction, with a frosted anodized barrel and a large rubber focusing ring. Internal sealing helps to protect against the elements, and a blue sealing ring protects the vulnerable lens and camera mount. Also, the ZF.2 Nikon F-mount lenses have a de-click aperture option for smooth aperture control when shooting video.

The barrel features laser-engraved focus, DOF and IR markings, and the manual focus ring has hard stops at the minimum focus distance and infinity. Optically, the Milvus lenses are color matched and optimized for digital sensors shooting high-resolution stills and 4K videos. All of the new lenses have improved ghost and flare reduction, with consistent performance throughout all focus distances.

Replacing the respective Distagon T* lenses are the Milvus 21mm f/2.8 ZE for Canon EF and ZF.2 for Nikon F lenses; and the 35mm f/2 ZE for Canon EF and ZF.2 for Nikon F lenses.

The Milvus 50mm f/1.4 and the 85mm f/1.4 lenses both feature new optical designs, though they will not directly replace their predecessors. The 50mm f/1.4 has a Distagon-type optical design made up of 10 elements in 9 groups, and features 4 low-dispersion elements, and 1 aspheric element. The new 50mm sees improved performance wide open, with well-controlled ghosting and chromatic aberrations. It is available in both ZE for Canon EF and ZF.2 for Nikon F.

The 85mm f/1.4 lens has a new Planar-type design using 11 elements in 9 groups. Seven low-dispersion elements help to minimize ghosting, and aberrations and a spherical design ensure smooth out-of-focus elements. The 85mm f/1.4 is also available in ZE for Canon EF and ZF.2 for Nikon F.
