Zencoder Selected to Support Khan Academy's World Class Educational Videos on iOS Devices

Cloud Encoding Leader Launches Initiative for Non-Profits and Educational Institutions

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 14, 2012) - Zencoder, the performance leader in cloud-based video encoding, today announced it has been selected by Khan Academy to transcode the education non-profit's video catalog for distribution to the iPad. Khan Academy recently launched its Apple iOS application, providing access to its award-winning library of more than 2700 instructional videos. In support of Khan Academy's vision, Zencoder will be providing qualified non-profits and non-profit educational institutions discounted video encoding services.

"Zencoder handles all of our video conversions and prep for the App Store automatically, which is a huge time saver for us. Without them, we'd be going through quite a bit more pain to send our educational videos to the iPad crowd," said Ben Kamens, Lead Developer at Khan Academy.

Khan distributes video through a variety of different outlets and to a wide array of devices. Prior to using Zencoder, Khan's videos were manually processed by volunteers in a time-consuming process. Zencoder not only automates the transcoding process, but also applies a watermark to the video, so proper attribution of the video is preserved when videos are downloaded.

"Khan Academy shows how video can change the world," said Jon Dahl, CEO and founder of Zencoder. "We share Khan's vision of bringing knowledge and education to everyone. To do this, Khan needs to publish video to more and more devices, which has been costly and difficult in the past. Zencoder is changing that, and by offering a discount to non-profits like Khan, we hope to make our technology even more accessible."

Effective immediately, qualified nonprofits can take advantage of Zencoder's encoding service at a reduced rate. Qualified organizations should be registered as a 501c3 organization (in the U.S.) or as an NGO (outside of the U.S.). Nonprofits interested in finding out more information about this program should contact Zencoder at
