Zephyr Photonics Updates ITAR Certification

ZEPHYR COVE, NV--(Marketwire - Jul 18, 2012) - Zephyr Photonics, a leading developer of harsh environment, optical interconnect solutions for mission-critical intelligence, defense, aerospace, industrial and energy applications, today announced that it has updated its International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) registration with the U.S. Department of State.

Per the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, "any person who engages in the United States in the business of either manufacturing or exporting defense articles or furnishing defense services is required to register and keep their registration current with this Office pursuant to the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR part 122)."

In addition to ITAR registration, Zephyr Photonics has also been accredited by the Defense Microelectronics Activity ("DMEA") as a Trusted IC supplier, and is ISO 9001:2008 certified and ROHS compliant.

Zephyr's manufactures its proprietary vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) at its wafer fabrication facility in Zephyr Cove, Nev. The advanced, wide-temperature, photonics technology provides the technical building block necessary, for the first time, to replace copper-based interconnects in harsh operating environments with optical interconnects. Before Zephyr Photonics' technology, accessing the benefits of optical interconnects, including improved throughput and signal integrity, as well as achieving significant reductions in both systems' size, weight and power (SWaP) and the effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI), was not possible because of legacy optical device failures over wide temperature ranges.
