Zoic Studios Join Forces With Arnson Communications to Create 360 Degree HD Videowall Experience for EA

Exciting, Totally Original Presentation Immerses E3 Attendees Into the World of EA Videogames

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 27, 2005 -- The first thing E3 attendees saw when they walked through the doors of the high-energy videogame convention is an expansive booth for EA featuring an immersive 360 degree HD video surround experience that showcases some of the developers next generation and leading titles. For this project, the creative agency Arnson Communications called upon the team at Zoic Studios to help bring this one-of-a-kind experience to life for Electronic Arts.

In the planning stages, Todd Arnson approached Zoic Studios with his vision. Zoic advised on the technical spec and creative execution of the presentation for the 13.5-foot high x 188-foot long circular environment. The company, led by Zoic Visual Effects Supervisor Andrew Orloff, was also selected to animate two segments of the show: cinematics for EA's promotion of "FIFA" and "The Godfather." For "FIFA," Zoic worked with next generation game assets, placing high-resolution characters into a hyper-realistic soccer stadium environment with moving crowds, lifelike plays and true-to-life characterizations. For "The Godfather," Zoic drew upon the classic film to present a rich scene that is lush with detail and layers of complexity worthy of the feature's (and the game it has inspired) aesthetic.

Once "FIFA" and "The Godfather" segments were completed, Zoic was responsible for the overall assembly of various animated segments provided by the Arnson internal design-production team, EA in-house teams, and a number of other select cg animation vendors. The completed assembly delivered a flowing eight-minute plus presentation that features nearly 300,000 frames of HD material. This involved the manipulation of over three terabytes of data per day, which was assembled and layered in a little over one week. The project utilized a complete spectrum of hardware and software including flame, Maya, After Effects and Mental Ray.

Zoic is an award-winning visual effects and digital production studio that combines leading technology with multi-disciplinary artists to create original and imaginative projects for film, television, commercials and music videos. In addition to EA, recent Zoic projects include the upcoming feature release "Serenity," television episodics "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "CSI: Miami," commercial campaigns for HP as well as the acclaimed viral campaign for MINI.
