ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - Mar 6, 2013) - Red Giant Entertainment Inc. (OTCQB: REDG) announced today they have financing in place and have begun principal casting for their feature film, LAST BLOOD. The Simon Hunter directed film is a live action adaptation of a Red Giant Entertainment property that takes place after a zombie apocalypse, when vampires must battle to protect the last surviving humans to keep alive the necessary blood supply.
LAST BLOOD will be produced by Red Giant Entertainment's Aimee Schoof, Isen Robbins and Benny R. Powell, as well as exec producer Christian Arnold-Beutel and Keenspot's Chris and Bobby Crosby. The Crosby siblings created the graphic novel with illustrator Owen Gieni, and Bobby Crosby wrote the screenplay with Nick V. Sterling. LAST BLOOD was published as an online graphic novel in 2006, drawing almost 20 million readers around the world.
"We've always had fun imagining who would play our lead vampires and last surviving humans, as have our legions of fans," said Chris Crosby. "Now that we're about to see these characters become a flesh and blood reality on the silver screen, we're excited beyond words."
In a related announcement, Isen Robbins and Aimee Schoof, the award-winning producers behind Intrinsic Value Films, have joined Red Giant Entertainment (OTCQB: REDG) as Members of their Board of Directors.
In the past decade of filmmaking, this creative duo has produced over thirty feature films. Their films have premiered an impressive seven times at the Sundance Film Festival. Their most recent film, BLUE CAPRICE, a grim story about the Beltway Snipers, screened at the show to rave reviews and was announced yesterday as an acquisition from Sundance Selects for North American and Latin American rights for a reported seven-figure minimum guarantee.
"Robbins and Schoof have solidified themselves as creative talents and a filmmaking force to be reckoned with," explains Red Giant CEO Benny Powell. "While many so-called producers talk the talk, these two walk the walk and get the job done. We make it a habit to work with people who get things done."
Robbins and Schoof have an eye for up-and-coming talent. They've helped launch the careers some of today's biggest stars. Mark Ruffalo, who starred in their Sundance award-nominated XX/XY, went on to an Academy Award® nomination before wowing audiences as The Incredible Hulk in THE AVENGERS. They cast Zoe Saldana in THE SKEPTIC, who then broke all-time box office records as the leading lady in James Cameron's AVATAR and later in J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK.
"Benny came to our attention early on when we first found his comic, Wayward Sons," said Robbins. "His creative talent was only matched by his business savvy. I knew we would have to keep working together."
Schoof added, "This was just the logical next step for us both creatively and in business. We've long been fans of the genres that Red Giant creates, and are happy to be on board."
Intrinsic Value Films was founded in 1997, with the goal of producing high-quality films on a reasonable budget. Those films have included the Samuel Goldwyn-distributed romantic musical ANYTHING BUT LOVE starring Andrew McCarthy; the Comedy Central film HEBREW HAMMER starring Adam Goldberg and Andy Dick; DEATH OF A DYNASTY starring Jay-Z; the Sundance Special Jury Prize-winning BROTHER TO BROTHER; MISSING IN AMERICA starring Danny Glover and Ron Perlman, THE ATTIC starring Elizabeth Moss; and THE ALPHABET KILLER starring Eliza Dushku.
Robbins and Schoof have a multitude of films in various stages of development and production and are actively taking Red Giant properties in various media platforms.
