ZoomMed Signs a 1M$ Software Development Agreement and Creates a Partnership with Sharpe Medical Consulting to Build and Commercialize an EMR for all Behavioral Health Providers

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 16, 2012) - ZoomMed Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ZMD), is proud to announce the signature of a 1M$ software development agreement and the creation of a partnership with Sharpe Medical Consulting, based in Washington DC, to bring together their resources to build and commercialize, throughout North America, an EMR (Electronic Medical Record) for all behavioral health providers.

This EMR will deliver a simplified way to incorporate cross cutting and severity measures, DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) criteria, psychiatric practice guideline-based clinical decision support and patient education material at the point of care. It will be a modular product built around a clinical note-writer application. This note-writer module will include a comprehensive patient summary, a robust reports section and a clinical library.

With current government incentive programs followed by the onset of penalties, most psychiatrists will be driven to use an EMR in the near future. It is estimated that there are 55,000 psychiatrists in the US and Canada. But the potential market is not limited to psychiatrists. With the release of the DSM-5, all behavioral health providers will have to migrate to the new diagnostic schema. This includes psychologists and social workers. It is estimated that there are close to 100,000 psychologists and over 800,000 social workers in the US.

Actually, Psychiatric Diagnoses are categorized by DSM-4. This manual is published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and covers all mental health disorders for both children and adults. Mental Health Professionals use this manual when working with patients in order to better understand their illness, the potential treatment and to help 3rd party payers (e.g., insurance) understand the needs of the patient. The book is typically considered the 'bible' for any professional who makes psychiatric diagnoses in the United States and many other countries. The fifth edition (DSM-5) is currently under preparation and should be published in May 2013 by the APA.

"Sharpe Medical Consulting has an extensive experience with building workflows and graphical user interfaces within EMRs. They have delivered great workflows to behavioral health providers that incorporate the DSM-4 criteria and clinical decision support at the point of care." said Mr. Yves Marmet, president and CEO of ZoomMed.

"ZoomMed is a leading provider of e-Prescribing services in Canada and their product is now available in the United States. ZoomMed's intuitive and simple interface along with a robust database makes them the partner of choice for this project." added Dr. Charles Motsinger, president of Sharpe Medical Consulting.
