Zoran Corporation Teams With LSI to Provide Fax Technology for Multifunction Printer Manufacturers

Software Modem Solution Reduces Bill of Material Costs and Speeds Time to Market

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - December 14, 2009) - Zoran Corporation (NASDAQ: ZRAN) announced today that it is incorporating fax modem technology from LSI Corporation into its Quatro® processor reference platform to enable manufacturers of multifunction printers (MFPs) to build more affordable printers for the home and office markets and bring them to market quickly.

MFP manufacturers recognize that while fax capability continues to be a requirement for their product lines, using a traditional, non-integrated hardware modem solution involves considerable component costs and development effort. Zoran's Quatro® reference platform delivers a significant cost savings and faster time to market by pre-integrating both LSI™ software and hardware modem solutions.

The Quatro® processors' high-performance ARM® CPU core runs the LSI software modem, eliminating the costly modem data-pump component. In addition, the Quatro® reference platform features complete fax protocol, fax image processing and data compression/decompression software to simplify fax development for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

"The MFP market is evolving and demand for lower-cost fax modem technology is increasing. Its progression is expected to follow the PC market trend of moving from hardware-based modem solutions to software-based solutions," said Brian Bissett, editor and publisher, The MFP Report. "Zoran's inclusion of LSI fax solutions in its Quatro reference platform demonstrates Zoran's understanding of manufacturers' requirements for cost-effective, reliable solutions that accelerate the delivery of multifunction printers with fax capability."

"We are pleased that Zoran has incorporated LSI fax modems into its Quatro MFP reference platform," said Surinder Rai, marketing director, Network Components Division, LSI Corporation. "Manufacturers will not only save on the modem component cost, but also will benefit from LSI's world-class technical support, which will help them achieve fast time to market."

Zoran's Quatro® platform features a scalable and extensible architecture that provides OEMs with flexibility, increased integration and enhanced performance while significantly reducing the bill of materials for a wide spectrum of printer products. Specifically, each Quatro® processor solution includes an industry-leading ARM CPU to assure high-performance and easy-to-use programmability, a Quatro® SIMD DSP core for high-quality image processing operations and a flexRISC microcontroller core to efficiently control mechanisms such as scanners and printers.

Quatro® reference platforms incorporating LSI fax modems will be available in Q1 2010. For more information, please visit or contact a Zoran sales representative at 781-791-6000.
